Viva España – My trip through Spain
It is starting again! After more than one year of abstinence I start to travel again. In my first summer semester break I will explore the country of the football World- and European Champions, of Flamenco, hot summer and bullfight: Spain!
And so I started my trip on August 29th in the amazing town of Horka (Upper Lusatia) – from there my rideshare to Bern, Switzerland started. I stayed for one day in the capital of the Swiss Confederation – and it was a beautiful day!
Indeed Bern is not directly in the Alps and I haven’t seen much of the monstrous mountains and also the weather (19°C and rain) was not entirely appealing – but the city is really old, cultural and at all a worth seeing capital city!
For lunch I had my perfect swiss experience: Swiss Cheese on Swiss Bread, Swiss Chocolate for dessert – and everything right in the middle of the Swiss “Bundesplatz”.
And as is right and proper for a trip to a capital for me, I visited the parliament building of Switzerland, the Swiss “Bundeshaus”. I learned something about the direct democracy in Switzerland and I am some kind of impressed. To be honest: For a 82 million country like Germany this way of democracy is not entirely practicable, but at least some parts of it are worth discussing about!
I continued the visit of a Bern with an historical place for Germany. The name “Wankdorf Stadium” is wedded to Helmut Rahn, Toni Turek, Fritz Walter & Co, the kicker that bestowed the first glorious moment on the german football history: Â ”The Miracle of Bern”. In summer 1954 Germany won the Football World Cup the first time in that stadium in Bern!
My first visit in Switzerland is ending on August 31st with a train trip from Bern to Geneva and from there through Montpellier to Barcelona – and then my one-month-travel throughout the country of Spain starts. I am looking forward to it!
